Overview

Moxifloxacin Infusion is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic administered intravenously for the treatment of serious bacterial infections. It is generally given once daily by slow IV infusion over at least 60 minutes. Rapid administration may cause an increased heartbeat or dizziness; therefore, the infusion rate must always be carefully controlled.

Dosage and Administration

  • Route: Intravenous infusion only

  • Frequency: Once daily (as prescribed by the physician)

  • Infusion time: Minimum 60 minutes

  • Transition to oral therapy: Patients who can tolerate oral medications may be switched to an appropriate oral antibiotic to complete the treatment course.

If used at home, patients should be thoroughly trained by a healthcare professional on preparation, administration, and safe disposal of medical supplies.

Important Instructions

  • Inspect the solution before use; do not administer if discoloration or particles are present.

  • Maintain a constant level of antibiotic in the body by taking doses at regular, evenly spaced intervals.

  • Drink plenty of fluids unless otherwise directed by your physician. If oral intake is not possible, fluids may be provided intravenously.

Clinical Considerations

  • Treatment duration and dosage depend on the severity of infection, site of infection, and patient’s clinical response.

  • Inform your healthcare provider if you feel dizzy, faint, or experience an irregular heartbeat during infusion.

  • Always use under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional.
