Ofloxacin + Clotrimazole + Beclomethasone + Lignocaine

This is a multi-drug combination, usually available as an ear drop or cream, designed to treat mixed ear infections or skin infections that involve:

  • Bacteria

  • Fungus

  • Inflammation

  • Pain or itching

It combines an antibiotic, antifungal, steroid, and local anesthetic in a single preparation.

Components and Their Roles

  1. Ofloxacin

    • Type: Fluoroquinolone antibiotic

    • Action: Stops bacterial growth by blocking DNA replication enzymes.

    • Purpose: Treats bacterial infections in the ear canal or skin.

  2. Clotrimazole

    • Type: Antifungal

    • Action: Damages fungal cell membranes, killing or stopping their growth.

    • Purpose: Treats fungal infections, often part of mixed ear infections (otomycosis).

  3. Beclomethasone

    • Type: Corticosteroid

    • Action: Reduces swelling, redness, itching, and irritation.

    • Purpose: Controls inflammation and speeds up symptom relief.

  4. Lignocaine (Lidocaine)

    • Type: Local anesthetic

    • Action: Numbs the area by blocking pain signals from nerves.

    • Purpose: Relieves pain, burning, and discomfort.

Common Uses

  • Otitis externa (outer ear infection) caused by bacteria or fungi

  • Mixed ear infections (bacterial + fungal) with inflammation and pain

  • Skin infections where both bacteria and fungus are involved, and itching or pain is present

Advantages

  • Treats multiple causes (bacterial + fungal) in one medicine

  • Reduces inflammation and pain quickly

  • Convenient — one treatment instead of using separate antibiotic, antifungal, and pain-relief drops

Possible Side Effects

  • Mild burning or irritation after application

  • Temporary ear/skin redness

  • Allergic reaction (rare) to any of the components

  • Long-term steroid use may cause thinning of skin or delayed healing

Precautions

  • Should be used only as prescribed and for the recommended duration.

  • Not to be used if there is a hole in the eardrum unless specifically advised by a doctor.

  • Overuse can lead to antibiotic resistance or fungal overgrowth.

  • Wash hands before applying and avoid contamination of the dropper tip.
