Tadalafil Oral Jelly

  • Type: Phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor

  • Main Use: Treats erectile dysfunction (ED) — helps men achieve and maintain an erection when sexually stimulated.

  • Form: Oral jelly (gel-like form that is swallowed) instead of a tablet.

How It Works

  • Tadalafil blocks the enzyme PDE5, which normally breaks down cGMP in the penis.

  • Higher cGMP levels relax blood vessels, allowing increased blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation.

  • This leads to improved erection quality and longer duration.

  • Works only when there is sexual arousal — it does not cause an erection on its own.

Key Feature Compared to Sildenafil

  • Longer duration of action — effects can last up to 36 hours (often called the “weekend pill”).

  • Allows more spontaneity, as you do not need to time sexual activity as strictly.

Why Oral Jelly Form is Used

  • Faster absorption — may work within 15–30 minutes

  • Easy to swallow — good for people who dislike tablets

  • Often available in different flavors for convenience

Common Uses

  • Erectile dysfunction

  • Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) – improves urinary symptoms (usually with daily tablet form, not jelly)

  • Pulmonary arterial hypertension (specialist-prescribed, tablet form more common)

Advantages

  • Long-lasting effect — more flexibility in timing sexual activity

  • Fast onset with oral jelly formulation

  • Discreet and convenient to take without water

Possible Side Effects

  • Headache

  • Indigestion

  • Back pain or muscle aches

  • Flushing (warm sensation)

  • Nasal congestion

  • Rare but serious: prolonged erection (priapism), sudden vision or hearing loss, significant drop in blood pressure (especially with nitrates)

Precautions

  • Avoid use with nitrates or certain blood pressure medications — may cause dangerous low blood pressure.

  • Use with caution in patients with heart disease, kidney or liver impairment.

  • Avoid excessive alcohol, as it can increase side effects like dizziness or fainting.

  • Should only be taken under medical guidance for diagnosed ED.
